Well, after six months to the day, the KCMO school district finally completed JCG's evaluation for special services. He now has an IEP (Individualized Education Program) and qualifies for two 30-minute sessions a week of speech therapy. While he's still about a year behind in gross motor skills, he didn't qualify for any occupational or physical therapy services. He is catching up at such a fast pace - by the time they did a thorough follow-up to the initial screening, he'd improved a lot in the gross motor area. I'm grateful. We just walk across the street to Swinney Elementary for his speech therapy. I really like the therapist - not certain if we'll get her again in the fall. I can't believe how much he's starting to demonstrate what he knows with language. A few examples:
"help you" (really means "will you help me?" because he's imitating me when I say "I'll help you")
"watch this" (I want to watch TV)
"up - down" (he's all about opposites)
"go - stop"
"sit down"
"quiet -shhh"
"right now"
"play outside park"
I love listening to new words every day. We're reading a lot per usual, also using more flashcards just to pick more and more nouns.
