I can't believe it's my second Mother's Day. I am still in awe of being J's mom. He is blossoming and we are blossoming. He is growing like a weed, enjoying life more and more. We are getting the hang of being a family. I am more and more focusing on the little moments v. worrying about the big picture.
Today in church they had all the kids parade in at the end and stand on the stage as usual to sing the last song with the congregation. They invited all the mom's to go up and join their kids, per Mother's Day. Up I went. Joaquin looked at me as if to say, "What are you doing here, this is MY gig!" On the way home, he said, "Mommy, I go church, I go upstairs by self." I have officially been uninvited from attempting that again. Isn't this supposed to start in Jr. High?
The other thing this week that made me chuckle: he woke up Wed. a.m. and asked to wear shorts to school. It was really chilly, so I let him know we'd consider it tomorrow if it was warmer. "Mommy, Ebeebody wear shoats." So the next a.m. I asked him if he wanted to wear shorts. "Mommy, Ebeebody wear pants." Let the games begin. Isn't peer pressure supposed to start in Jr. High?
Yesterday was the first day that I worked in the yard and J "worked" with me, for over two hours. It was a milestone! I mowed the lawn while he "watered the garden." This meant filling up the watering can about three cups full for each trip he made to dump water on one individual flower. He was very particular. I'm estimating he made close to fifteen trips. He was in his element.
We've been having fun social times lately. Uncle Paul came over for lunch on Friday this week, and made a recording of J and I reading "Curious George" for one of his art instillations. Amy and Shawn and baby Harry came over for dinner Friday night. Then we went to Tia Marianna's to celebrate three birthdays in our circle of friends. Joaquin and little Tacoa danced together to Merengue and Salsa. I got great pictures. Could he be a dancer??!! Could Mommy be more thrilled? Then today we had Kris & Jamie and all the boys, as well as my friend Lysa over for Mother's Day lunch. The kids had a great time as usual, playing "snow" with all J's plastic letters.
At this moment, J is in bed, yelling "I Thirsty." This is because I chose tonight to stop giving him anything to drink after 6 p.m. to see if this might promote dry pants all night. I will not open the door. I will go the distance. Consistency is king. Just a little parenting pep talk for myself.
I am grateful grateful grateful for my life and especially for little Joaquin. One last thing, speaking of little. He's not so little anymore. I measured him today at home. Last time I measured him was on his birthday, 7.1.09. Today is 5.9.10. He went from 37.25 inches last July to 41.25 now?! Is it possible to grow four inches in one year??
Life is good. Over and out.
