Thanksgiving with Grandpa

We're in Iowa, we got to meet Grandpa, Aunts Lois, Uncle Simon, and a bunch of cousins at Steve and Jeans' for Thanksgiving. Also Aunt Sue, Ingrid, Gunnar, & Elise! Two unfortunate events have occurred: JCG was sick with an intestinal thing all day Thanksgiving, many many trips to the potty though not one accident (thanks be to God); and Mommy forgot to bring the camera!! The latter is a tragedy; here Joaquin sits with his Grandpa, reading book after book, and it isn't captured on film! Ah well, we'll be back soon. The two Claytons have really hit it off; Dad just doesn't skip a beat where kids are concerned. I guess after having five yourself you pretty much have it down. I left them alone together twice, the second time JCG hardly noticed I was gone. They went to the basement of the nursing home across the street from Dad's cottage, and played ball in the recreation room. JCG likes to hold Grandpa's hand and notices when he isn't with us. He is becoming more verbal - he is saying no and shaking his head consistently in context, and is more openly mimicking other people's words in the moment. New vocabulary includes: bananas, later, clean up. Just so you know.

My internet has been down the past couple of weeks, I'll be getting a new service in the next week or so. So I'm taking advantage of Dad's while I'm here. I'm really looking forward to Christmas; he'll get to meet more aunts, uncles, and cousins. I just crave being with my family since he's come to be with us. He got a nice little introduction to how big the extended family is this week at Steve and Jeans. What a wonderful day. I love the chaos! He's the best Christmas gift I've ever and will ever have, definitely.

I'm surprised how many folks tell me they continue to read this lately; I'll do my best to keep it current! Happy Thanksgiving to Everybody.

Hi Karen. Yes, keep up the little boy blog. I frequently log in to read it. Joaquin is sooo cute. I would love to see you in action with him because I know you're a great mother.
